About Us
George O'Laughlin started in the Insurance business in 1984 as an agent for the New York Life
Insurance Company. As an agent focusing primarily on Life and Disability products, he was
consistently asked to review employee benefit programs with Health Insurance as the primary
concern. Through time, he transitioned his business from Life Insurance to employee benefits.
As his knowledge in the industry grew, managed care companies such as Healthsource S.C. hired
him to develop and market their HMO products. As sales manager for Healthsource, he was directly
responsible for the training of sales staff and saw Healthsource enrollment grow to be the largest
HMO in the state.
With proven success and knowledge of Healthcare, the South Carolina Medical Association (SCMA) hired Mr. O'Laughlin to develop a statewide Preferred Provider Network (PPO) called "Physicians Care Network" (PCN)
This new position, as Director of Marketing, gave him great insight from the physicians' perspective and valuable information on physician and hospital contract negotiations.
After the Medical Association, George was asked to write and develop a new commercial HMO product under the name of Select Health of SC. He successfully wrote and was approved by the South Carolina Department of Insurance to market and sell this HMO product. This opportunity gave Mr. O'Laughlin knowledge of the insurance laws that govern managed care companies and a chance to work closely with members of the Department of Insurance.
In 1998 Mr. O'Laughlin reentered the brokerage field and was hired by a local Property and Casualty Company to oversee the employee benefits departments in three offices.
With his knowledge of the health care industry and his work experience, in January of 2001 he started his own agency. The O'Laughlin Agency Inc. The O'Laughlin Agency is licensed in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. The agency currently works with over 100 clients and manages over 15 million dollars in annual premiums. The O'Laughlin Agency continues to grow at a very controlled pace with service and dedication to clients as their primary focus.
